NORTHEASTERN STUDENTS: ARE YOU READY TO RIOT?

Northeastern Riots

The Red Sox clinch the pennant and are heading to the World Series! In anticipation of post-game riots (which the world-renowned Northeastern students are famous for), my neighborhood has turned into a miniature war zone.

CHAIRMAN MEOW’S GRAND DAY OUT

After weeks of shots, pills, and antibiotic therapy, Chairman Meow has recovered from his grave illness. To celebrate, we treated him to a grand day out!

Thanks to those who donated funds (Mom and Victor). But it’s not too late to donate! Just pennies a day will help feed Chairman Meow, pay for costly vaccinations, and provide much-needed supplies (like ping pong balls and catnip).

CHAIRMAN MEOW NEEDS YOUR HELP

When I adopted Chairman Meow (nee Mr. Buckman), the MSPCA said he was healthy despite a “mild” case of gingivitis, for which they ordered a $600 dental procedure. I wanted a second opinion, but the MSPCA wouldn’t cooperate – due to “privacy issues” they wouldn’t release his medical records. What privacy issues?? He’s a cat! He licks his butt in public! After I screamed and cried, they finally faxed his records to our new vet, who discovered that the gingivitis was just a symptom of an underlying, potentially lethal Bartonella infection (cat scratch fever). He also had fleas AND tapeworm. Oh, the geniuses at the MSPCA. The appropriate treatment was effective and much less expensive – but it’s still a lot. See what I’ve spent so far.

A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE: OZZY THE CAT

As we mourn the tragic events of 9/11, I’d like to pay special tribute to Ozzy.

This sweet-tempered kitten lived a charmed life that ended shortly after the terrorist attacks. He followed my parents to a candle-lighting ceremony, and was struck by a hit-and-run driver. All the local veterinarians left work early to attend these ceremonies, so my parents drove 50 miles to a clinic in SLC in a vain attempt to save his life. In honor of Ozzy, I would like to put a stop to these useless candle-lighting ceremonies. There are many more useful ways to remember the victims of 9/11 than to burn a bunch of candles. Plant a tree. Give to charity. Drive carefully. If you must drive recklessly, try to hit a terrorist rather than a kitten trying to cross the street.

THE BUTTERFLIES HAVE GROWN…

..and I have figured out how to take decent close-up photos of them. See my new butterfly page!
