ESCAPE TO NEW YORK

In late August 2005, Alex surprised me with tickets to a movie - a rare treat in a world of DVD rentals. The catch: the movie was playing in New York City. Since August 31 is Boston's moving day and the streets fill with discarded furniture and junk, we decided an escape was necessary. So we went down to NYC for the premiere of "William Eggleston in the Real World" at the Film Forum. Alex is a friend of the Eggleston family, so we were invited to the afterparty where we mingled with the likes of Rutger Hauer and David Byrne.

Fueled by hot dogs, we made a pilgrimage to Coney Island and paid homage to the Cyclone rollercoaster. We also explored New York's former landmarks: the Fulton Fish Market, the Howard Johnson's, and of course, the World Trade Center site.
